Biography

On March 7, 1964, in Portsmouth, Virginia, USA, Marion Louise and Harry Ellsworth Sykes were the parents who gave birth to Wanda Yvette Sykes. Her father was a U.S. Army colonel, while her mother was a banker. she had a one sibling Harry Sykes.

After graduating from Arundel High School, she attended Hampton University, where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in marketing. She was affiliated with Alpha Kappa Alpha.

Personal Life

Dave Hall was the subject of her marriage to her in 1991, but she divorced him in 1998.

In 2008, she made it public that she was a lesbian and married her boyfriend Alex Niedbalski. Olivia and Lucas are the children of the couple, both of whom are fraternal twins.

Career

At a Coors Light Super talent Showcase in Washington, DC in 1987, she introduced herself to stand-up comedy. She was able to perform in front of a live audience for the first time. Upon becoming an opening act for Chris Rock, she appeared on shows like Stand-Up Spotlight and HBO Comedy Showcase. She began working as a writer on The Chris Rock Show for five years starting in 1997, and won an Emmy with the other writers in 1999.

Since 2001, she has appeared on numerous episodes of the Curb Your Enthusiasm improvised comedy series. ‘Biggie Shorty’ was her character in the 2001 comedy movie ‘Pootie Tang’, which also featured Chris Rock. The movie was based on a comedy sketch that was first staged on ‘The Chris Rock Show’.

She portrayed various characters on the show before launching her film career in Tomorrow Night (1998), which premiered at Sundance. The Klumps (2000), Down to Earth (2001), and Pootie Tang (2001) were the roles that followed.
