Born on November 28, 1983, in New York, Summer Rae was originally named Danielle Louise Moinet, with her father being of French descent and her mother of British lineage. She became the inaugural birth in her family’s history within the United States. Within a few days of her birth, her family moved to North Carolina in pursuit of better career opportunities.

From a young age, she was always enthusiastic about sports and fitness, and she kept up her gym routine well into her high school years. She earned her degree from East Carolina University, becoming the first family member to attend college. Having completed her college education, she took on a desk job at a small business. Soon after, she came to realize that spending more than 50 hours a week at a computer wasn’t feasible for her, and she chose to leave her job.
