What is Dhanteras Wishes?
Dhanteras holds significant importance in Hindu culture, marking the start of the five-day Diwali festivities. To grasp what Dhanteras signifies, examining both its essence and its customs can be beneficial. The term “Dhanteras” stems from “Dhan,” signifying wealth, and “Teras,” denoting the thirteenth date of the lunar semi-monthly period. It aligns with the thirteenth day of the lunar fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the month of Ashwin or Kartik, depending on the local calendar.
People often inquire about this, and the straightforward response is that it’s a day focused on prosperity, good fortune, and health. Devotees pay homage to Lord Dhanvantari, the heavenly healer and manifestation of Lord Vishnu, who is linked to Ayurveda and health. In numerous households, people also honor Goddess Lakshmi, the wealth goddess, and Lord Kubera, the treasure god, to beseech blessings for financial security and prosperity in the upcoming year.
One of the well-known customs associated with Dhanteras is the acquisition of new things, particularly metals such as gold, silver, and cookingware. Acquiring an item crafted from metal on this date is widely believed to be highly auspicious, symbolizing the influx of wealth and positive energy into the dwelling. Families also undertake cleaning and decorating their homes, drawing rangoli designs at the door, and lighting lamps to welcome good fortune and dispel bad energies.
