Early Life & Education

Concord, California, United States welcomed Tom Hanks into the world on July 9, 1956. On July 9th, 1956, Amos Mefford Hanks (father) and hospital worker Janet Marylyn Frager (mother) were the parents of him. Tom Hanks’ parents split up in 1960. Their mother and the youngest child, Jim Hanks (who went on to become an actor and filmmaker), remained in Red Bluff, California.

Sandra (now known as Sandra Hanks), Larry Hanks (a professor of entomology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), and Tom Hanks were present with their father. Tom Hanks’ family moved frequently during his childhood; by the time he was 10, he had lived in ten different homes.

Personal Life

Tom Hanks married Samantha Lewes, an American actress, in 1978. Colin Hanks, whom they had as their first child, was born in 1977, and Elizabeth Ann Hanks, their second child, was born in 1982.

Tom Hanks and Samantha Lewes ended their relationship in 1987. Samantha Lewes, who was 49 years old, succumbed to bone cancer in 2002.
