Stephen Douglas Kerr is an American basketball player and coach who is currently employed by the Golden State Warriors. He won the NBA championships five times as a player, three times with the Chicago Bulls and twice with the San Antonio Spurs, as well as three times as the head coach of the Warriors.

He began his professional career with the Phoenix Suns in 1988, but was then traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Before joining the Chicago Bulls, he spent three seasons with them and one with the Orlando Magic.

Beirut, Lebanon was the birthplace of Steve Kerr on September 27, 1965. His parents, Malcolm and Ann Kerr, had a professional career as professors at the American University of Beirut. While Malcom was an American professor of Middle Eastern studies, Ann was an English woman who worked as an ESL teacher. The team also won the championship the next three seasons, and Kerr’s play was especially notable in game six of the 1997 finals, where his buzzer-beater helped the Bulls capture another title. The departure of several players from the Bulls was caused by Jordan’s retirement after the 1997-98 season.

After joining the San Antonio Spurs in January 1999, Kerr helped the franchise win its first NBA title later that year. He began his career with the Portland Trail Blazers in 2000–01, but then returned to San Antonio. His fifth NBA championship was won by him in 2003.


In the beginning, Kerr worked as a TV analyst. In 2004, he began his work at the Phoenix Suns’ front office, and three years later, he became the team’s general manager. The team’s season concluded in 2010 and he left the franchise.
