Early Life
Born on October 30, 1980, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Sarah Sanguin Carter grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her parents and siblings are not made public.
Training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and performing in school plays like The Wizard of Oz as Dorothy at Balmoral Hall School demonstrated her early talent in the arts. Cold Squad (1998), Wolf Lake (2001), Dark Angel (2002), and Undeclared (2002) were some of the small roles Sarah Carter played in Canadian and U.S. television. Mindstorm (2001) and Final Destination 2 (2003) were her initial film roles, in which she played a victim of a fatal accident. Three episodes of Smallville (2004–2005) saw her become known for her role as Alicia Baker, a teleporting teenager with a complex arc.
In 2006, she played Helena Douglas in DOA: Dead or Alive with Holly Valance, showing off her physicality in a martial arts role. In 2006, she landed the role of Madeleine Poe, a rookie prosecutor, in all 38 episodes of Shark, directed by Spike Lee, and received critical praise for her performance. Carter’s career was characterized by her role as Maggie in TNT’s Falling Skies (2011–2015), where she played a fighter in an alien invasion story for five seasons.
She played Lynn Downey in Hawaii Five-0 (2015) and Cicada in The Flash (2018) after Falling Skies. In addition to her roles in Rogue (2014–2017), a police drama, she also appeared in films such as The Vow (2012) and Business Ethics (2019). In Her Name (2022), her first directorial venture, was premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won an Audience Award for her writing and production.
