The activist and journalist’s early childhood and teenage years were spent with her mother Vernita in her hometown. She moved to Nashville, in the United States of America, where she lived with her father Vernon after leaving her hometown.

Vernon, the father of Oprah, served as a coal miner and barber. The mother’s financial pressure was the main factor in her father’s decision to move with her. She had a mother who worked as a maid. Three half-siblings, including a younger sister named Patricia and a second sister named Patricia, were adopted by an unknown family. Jeffrey, her third and youngest sibling, succumbed to AIDS at a young age in 1989. Winfrey was brought up as a Protestant Christian and was baptized in a Baptist church when she was 8.

Education

Due to her good grades, Oprah Winfrey was transferred to Nicolet High School after briefly attending Lincoln High School in Milwaukee. Due to her mother’s decision to send her to live with her father, she was unable to complete her high school education.

East Nashville High School was where she enrolled and graduated as an honors student in Nashville. She was a popular student and participated in the drama team during her time in high school. At Tennessee State University, she obtained a degree in Communication. Her scholarship from an oratory contest allowed her to afford the fees.

Personal Life

Stedman Graham has been her partner for a long time. Since 1986, the two lovers have been in a relationship and have been together for the past thirty-five years. Their engagement to marry was in November 1992, but the wedding was postponed and has never been held since. The editor of O, The Oprah Magazine and her best friend are Gayle King. The pair has been friends for a considerable amount of time. Oprah is close friends and mentored by Maya Angelou.

Career

At a local grocery store, she began her career. Oprah Winfrey was a stunning woman who competed and won the Miss Black Tennessee Contest at the age of seventeen. WVOL was a local black radio station where she was hired during her final year of high school.

As a news reporter for the station, she worked part-time. She made the decision to switch to television after some time as a radio journalist. WLAC TV, which is based in Nashville, gave her the opportunity to work. She became the first black female anchor at the station and was responsible for anchoring the news.
