Biography
Maya Jama was brought up in Bristol, where she was born, and attended Cotham School. Her date of birth was on August 14, 1994. Swedish ancestry comes from her mother’s side while Somali ancestry comes from her father’s side. When she was 19, Maya Jama was named after American author and poet Maya Angelou by her mother, Sadie Jama.
She has a brother named Omar Jama as well. Mr. Jama, Maya Jama’s father, was imprisoned for violent crimes such as fights and brawls in bars during his youth. She stopped visiting her father in jail when she was 12, and she did so for ten years.

At the age of 18, Jama started pursuing a career in the media She began her career as an actress, then went on to work as a TV presenter and fashion model. Her career as a presenter began with the weekly music video countdown on JumpOff TV, and later she worked for Sky UK on Trace Sports. She became the host of Maya’s FIFA World World Cup Cities for Copa90, which is a travelogue that covers the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, in 2014 and the same year, she became the presenter for The Wrap Up at MTV.
