Lauren Helen Graham was brought into the world in Honolulu, Hawaii, on March 16, 1967, by Lawrence Graham, who was a representative of the candy industry and USAID employee, and Donna Grant, who was a buyer of clothing. After her parents’ divorce when she was five, she was raised mostly by her father and moved to Virginia, New York, and briefly in Japan due to her father’s deployments. Shade Grant is one of her half-siblings who were remarried to both parents.
Lauren Graham attended Langley High School in McLean, Virginia, and after completing her studies, she joined Barnard College, where she obtained a BA in English. She enrolled at Southern Methodist University to obtain her master’s degree in acting.

After completing her formal education, Lauren relocated to New York City and began working as a waitress.
