Biography
Taunton, Somerset, England is where James Purefoy was born on June 3, 1964, and is older than his siblings, Anthony Chetwynd Purefoy and Shirley (née Taylor).
He went to the boarding school Sherborne School and later went to a night school before enrolling at Brooklands College. Purefoy worked as a porter at the Yeovil District Hospital before attending the Central School of Speech and Drama.

James Purefoy’s stage career began with the performances of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Mary Morgan’, and ‘Equus’. He began his career with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1988 and performed in the productions of ‘The Constant Couple’, ‘The Man Who Came to Dinner’, ‘The Tempest’, and ‘King Lear’. An episode of ‘The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes’ was his first appearance on television in 1991.
