Taunton, Somerset, England is where James Purefoy was born on June 3, 1964, and is older than his siblings, Anthony Chetwynd Purefoy and Shirley (née Taylor).
He went to the boarding school Sherborne School and later went to a night school before enrolling at Brooklands College. Purefoy worked as a porter at the Yeovil District Hospital before attending the Central School of Speech and Drama.
