Who is Irrfan Khan?

On January 7th, 1966, Irrfan Khan was born in Jaipur city, Rajasthan, which is where he was born as a Bollywood actor. Irrfan Khan, the actor who ruled the hearts of everyone with his acting, has died. Wednesday, April 29, 2020 marked the end of Irrfan Khan’s life at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai.

Irrfan’s career has spanned nearly 30 years and he has won numerous awards, including National Film Awards in four categories and Filmfare Awards. He was recognized as one of the best actors in Indian cinema. His versatility and natural acting style have earned him praise from film critics, contemporaries, and other experts as one of the best actors in Indian cinema. For his contribution to the arts, he was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor in 2011. He was posthumously honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021.

Biography

On January 7, 1967, Irrfan Khan was born in Tonk, India and grew up under the care of his parents, Saeeda Begum Khan and Yaseen Ali Khan. He had three siblings when he was growing up, including an older brother called Imran Khan.

Irrfan finished his MA in Jaipur and then enrolled at the National School of Drama in New Delhi to pursue his love for acting. Despite his Indian heritage and Muslim identity, his talent and success were able to transcend any labels or boundaries.

Personal Life

Sutapa Sikdar, a former National School of Drama graduate, was married to Rrfan Khan on February 23, 1995. The foundation of their relationship was a strong friendship and mutual partnership. Babil Khan and Ayaan Khan are the two sons that the couple had.

Career

Khan made his first appearance with Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay shortly after graduating from NSD in 1987. He was given the opportunity to play a minor role. The final cut reduced his scenes. He portrayed Lenin in a Doordarshan drama, Laal Ghaas Par Neele Ghode, that was based on a translated Russian play by Uday Prakash. The main antagonist of the show, a psycho killer, was played by him in the serial Darr. In Kahkashan, Ali Sardar Jafri’s production, he played Makhdoom Mohiuddin, a famous revolutionary, Urdu poet, and Marxist political activist from India. He played a role in some of the Star Bestsellers episodes that aired on Star-Plus. He made an appearance in two episodes of the SET India series Bhanvar. He acted in numerous television serials throughout the 1990s, including Chanakya, Bharat Ek Khoj, Sara Jahan Hamara, Banegi Apni Baat, Chandrakanta, Shrikant, AnooGoonj on Doordarshan, Star Bestsellers (Star Plus), Sparsh and The Great Maratha on DD National. He had the opportunity to play two roles in the well-received 90s supernatural fantasy period drama Chandrakanta, which was based on an 1888 novel written by Devki Nandan Khatri.

Globally, Khan was in The Warrior (2001), The Namesake (2006), The Darjeeling Limited (2007), the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2008), New York, I Love You (2009), The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015) and Inferno (2016). His films have been able to earn $3.643 billion at the worldwide box office as of 2017. A neuroendocrine tumor was diagnosed to Khan in 2018.

Sutapa Sikdar was Khan’s wife when he got married in 1995. She specializes in movie production, dialogue writing, and screenwriting. Among her famous movies are Khamoshi: The Musical (Dialogue Writer, 1996), Supari (Dialogue Writer, 2003), Kahaani (Dialogue Writer, 2003), Madaari (Producer, 2016), Qarib Qarib Singlle (Producer, 2017)

In 2009, he made an appearance in the movie Acid Factory. He appeared as an FBI agent in New York (2009), and opposite Natalie Portman as a Gujarati diamond merchant in the Mira Nair-directed segment of the twelve-part feature New York, I Love You. In 2010, he worked on the third season of the HBO series In Treatment, enacting the part of Sunil, who is finding it difficult to come to terms with his wife’s death and loneliness after moving to the New York City borough of Brooklyn.

Khan played Dr. Rajit Ratha in the 2012 adaptation of The Amazing Spider-Man. In Ang Lee’s Life of Pi film adaptation, he portrayed the older Piscine Molitor, which was a critical and commercial success worldwide. The National Film Award for Best Actor was awarded to him for his portrayal as the eminent real-life athlete turned dacoit in Paan Singh Tomar (2012). He appeared in The Lunchbox, which was awarded the Grand Prix d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and nominated for a BAFTA, and became his highest-grossing Hindi film to date.
