May 8, 1975 marks the birth date of Enrique Iglesias, a Spaniard, in Madrid. Julio Iglesias, who is a famous Spanish singer, is his father, and Isabel Preysler, an renowned socialite in Madrid. Enrique lived with his mother after his parents divorced in 1979.
The kidnapping of his grandfather Dr. Julio Iglesias Puga by the armed Basque terrorist group ETA occurred in 1986. Isabel’s fear for her children’s safety led her to send them to Miami to live with their father. Signing a contract with Fonovisa Records in 1995 was a result of pretending to be an unknown singer from Guatemala. Soon after, Enrique left Miami University to concentrate on his solo singing career.
Enrique Iglesias’ debut album was released in July 1995. The album achieved gold status in Portugal in just a week after five songs from it topped the Latin charts on Billboard.
