Biography

On October 26, 1946, Chicago, Illinois witnessed the birth of Pat Sajak. Leonard Anthony Sajdak and Joyce Backal were American parents who brought him into the world. Two siblings share his name, David Sajdak and William Backal.

During a May 2017 game show episode, he was named ‘Warm Apple Turnover’ after graduating from Farragut High School in 1964. While working as a desk clerk at Palmer House Hotel, he enrolled in Columbia College Chicago.

In the early 1970s, Pat was employed as a DJ, and when his popularity began to increase, he was offered a voiceover job at NBC’s ‘Today’s Show,’ which quickly morphed into anchoring. In the late 1970s, KNBC-TV was searching for a weatherman and came across Pat. He accepted the job they offered him with joy.

Pat was asked by the management to host the game show ‘Wheel of Fortune’ when the channel was searching for a host in 1981. While many within the network did not welcome this decision, others supported it. Pat had previously hosted two pilot game shows in 1980 before hosting ‘Wheel of Fortune’.

In 1983, he began hosting the show, and for the next six years, he served as host for both the daytime and evening versions of the game. He proceeded with the prime time version later, but left the daytime version. His natural demeanor and quick wit caused the audiences to fall in love with him.
