Joscelyn Eve Stoker, who possesses many talents, was born in Dover, Kent, England on April 11, 1987. Richard Stoker (Sr.), who owned and operated a fruit and nut business, and Wendy Skillin (mother), who worked for a few years, had a third child named her. In Devon, the English singer was raised alongside her three siblings, Harry, Daniel, and Lucy.

Joss Stone made her initial public appearance at Uffculme Comprehensive School in Uffculme, Devon, where she covered Reet Petite, the Jackie Wilson Song from 1957. Tragically, at the age of sixteen, she was forced to abandon school with only three GCSE qualifications due to dyslexia.
