An American actor, Tyler Lee Hoechlin was born on September 11, 1987. His first recognition was for playing Michael Sullivan Jr. in the 2002 film Road to Perdition. From 2003 to 2007, Hoechlin played Martin Brewer on 7th Heaven on television. In addition, he became famous for portraying Derek Hale on Teen Wolf (2011–2014; 2017). Superman appeared in the CW’s Supergirl (2016–2019) and Superman & Lois (2021–2024), and he also portrayed Sephiroth in the Final Fantasy VII Remake franchise.

Early life

On September 11, 1987, Hoechlin was born in Corona, California, where he was the child of Lori and Don Hoechlin. His family’s ethnic background has been described as Native American, German, Irish, and other ethnic groups. There are two brothers and an older sister in Hoechlin’s family. Santiago High School was where he graduated in 2006.

Career

Baseball

At seven years old, Hoechlin started playing baseball and continued through high school, participating in the Area Code Games in 2004 and 2005. He was awarded a baseball scholarship to Arizona State University, where he played infield. He helped his team qualify for the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. After a year at Arizona State in 2008, he moved to University of California Irvine and became the second baseman for the UC Irvine Anteaters. In addition, he participated in summer collegiate wood-bat baseball with the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods League.

At first, Hoechlin focused on a career in baseball, prioritizing it over his acting opportunities, which led him to decline offers for auditions and meetings, and to decline the role of Emmett Cullen in the Twilight films. His ability to play and practice was limited by a pulled hamstring during his junior year in college. He decided to pursue acting full-time after participating in more acting auditions, following the advice of his coach.

Acting

Tyler started his acting career at a young age with television commercials, and he made his film debut in Family Tree in 1999. He made his mark as a young Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition (2002) with Tom Hanks. Critics praised his performance and gave him multiple awards. In addition to the Saturn Award for Outstanding Young Actor and the Young Artist Award for Outstanding Young Actor in a Feature Film.

He became well-known to audiences as Martin Brewer in the family drama 7th Heaven (2003–2007), which was his first regular television role.

He became a teen icon when he became Derek Hale, the mysterious werewolf, in MTV’s hit series Teen Wolf.
