Potts was not able to start acting professionally until 1977, when she landed her first television role in ‘Busting Loose’ and appeared in three episodes. In 1978, she made her big screen debut in the movie ‘Corvette Summer’, where she played Vanessa alongside Mark Hamill. Her work in that film earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination in 1979. She was cast in the main role of Edith Bedelmeyer in the 1980 series ‘Goodtime Girls’. After the first season, she starred in twelve episodes of the show. She was chosen to appear in the movie ‘Heartaches’ in 1981. She was nominated for the Genie Award for Best Foreign Actress in the following year for her role in ‘Heartaches’. Her television appearances in 1982 included ‘Something So Right’ and ‘Bayou Romance’. In the following year, she made a comeback in ‘Cowboy’ and ‘Remington Steele’, and also appeared in an episode of ‘Magnum, P.I.’
